Will Pennsylvania Still Fund Second Mile Center with Showers?

There is plenty of speculation about how much administrators at the organization knew—as well whether the center could lose $3 million in state funding promised to the organization for the construction of a 45,000-square foot learning center that was supposed to come with dorm rooms, locker areas, and showers."

Showers??!! I suppose once Penn State banned Sandusky from bringing Second Mile boys to its locker room facilities, he went to Plan B...

Farewell, Mr. Frazier!!

Heavyweight Boxing Champion Joe Frazier will be laid to rest in his native Beaufort, South Carolina; however, his remains lay in repose Friday and Saturday at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, where thousands of fans paid their last respects. Calls are growing in the City of Brotherly Love (and Sisterly Affection) to remove the statue of Rocky at the Art Museum and replace it with a statue of Smokin' Joe Frazier, a real-life hometown hero.

Welcome to "Black Woman-Independent." I'm still experimenting with design and formatting, but there's so much going on in the world, I can't let that stop me from jumping into the mix. The present dearth of independent Black voices presenting the events of these times--be they politics education, religion, entertainment, etc--from the perspective of the African American, is unacceptable. That's where BWI comes in, as we will operate in the spirit of the late, great Shirley Chisholm: "Unbought and Unbossed!"

Starting early next year, Oprah Winfrey BFF Gayle King will team up with revered PBS host Charlie Rose to host the struggling CBS Morning Show. Although, a seasoned broadcast journalist in her own right, King is best know for her longtime friendship with Ms. O. "I don't see myself standing in [Winfrey's] shadows, ever," she recently told Nightline. "I really do see myself standing in her light."

Merck CEO and Penn State Trustee to Lead Internal Investigation

Kenneth C. Clark, Merck CEO and prominent African American Penn State Trustee and alumnus, is leading the internal investigation into the University's handling of child sexual assault charges against former PSU defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky. It makes you wonder if race will soon become an issue in this case. Is that why they are putting a Black face on this investigation that is being closely watched around the world?
